Things To Do In London This Weekend: 12-14 Jan

Still on the dry January wagon? Come, be among your strong-willed people at this, London's new weekly booze-free party. And before you go thinking that 'booze-free party' is a contradiction in terms, hear us out: hip London Bridge bar Nine Lives is putting on a night of killer 90s hip-hop, shuffleboard, pizza by the slice – and, of course, alcohol-free cocktails. Seedlip creations include the NOgroni and the Garden Sour, the G&T Kefir is made with ginger, turmeric and lemon-water kefir, while the Recharge is ginger, lemongrass and sugar-free Red Bull. See? Your mum was right: you actually don't have to drink to have fun.

Admit it: all that new year's enthusiasm for getting fit is starting to turn into the usual rest-of-the-year enthusiasm for sitting down. Isn't it? Thought so. Well, fear not: opening this week is the new Blok Shoreditch, aka the world's most motivating fitness studio. Not only are the industrial-style spaces gorgeous, the showers super-posh and the café stocked with on-trend healthy eats, but, most importantly the classes are effective. Damn effective. Cardio killer, Bloksculpt, cardio barre, ballet fit, vinyasa flow… and our favourite, BlokParty. Consider those NY resolutions saved.

Of course, sometimes drinking is bloody good fun too. Especially at Untitled, the Dalston bar run by mixology maestro Tony Conigliano, where the drinks aren't so much cocktails as mini masterpieces. And from now until March, you can sip them looking at ACTUAL masterpieces, too – because adorning the walls is an exhibition by photographer Julia Gorton, who snapped the only the coolest of the 1970s New York punk scene. Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Richard Hell… they're all here. Cocktail drinking just got rock'n'roll.

There's only one thing that could be better than chicken wings and hip-hop. And that's FREE chicken wings and hip-hop. It's a truism that, this Friday, brings us to Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen. The east London mainstay recently became home to street-food stars Orange Buffalo (hooray), who are cheering up January by serving up spicy chicken wings – gratis (double hooray). What's more, DJs will be spinning dirty hip-hop beats and there's even a menu of 'Hot Shots': boozy shots with Orange Buffalo hot sauce in them (um, hooray?). So get down there and get smiling – January blues schmanuary blues.

At this ace theatrical extravaganza, it's the quiet ones you've got to watch. But set aside all visions of beret-sporting, face-painted chaps trying to escape an invisible box – modern mime takes in everything from physical theatre to puppetry, circus, Victorian-style magic shows, mechanical theatre, acrobatics, and sheep dangling from the ceiling. Obviously. Taking over venues including the Barbican, Soho Theatre and Shoreditch Town Hall, festival highlights include the Horror team's movie-inspired masterpiece, Lebensraum, or the wildlife-themed acrobatics of Fauna. So good, it's unheard of. Ahem.

Sacking off dry January? Fabulous decision. Keep the party rolling here, at exciting new London Fields venue Hangar. This Saturday it plays host to the shiny happy people of Horst Meat Disco, a night nobly 'dedicated to the industry of human happiness' via the medium of 'queer parties for everyone; homos and heteros, club kids, bears, fashionistas, naturists, guerilla drag queens and ladies who munch'. And let's face it, we ALL fall into one of those categories. So follow the call of the disco ball and make straight for the floor, darling…
