New Yorks City is full to the brim with iconic eateries. Some of which are so famous, that a) you don't need us to tell you about them and b) you'll likely not get a reservation unless you book eons ahead or you know someone very important (hello, Rainbow Room). There are a few institutions you can head to as a drop in. Katz' deli for one, Magnolia's for a second, but if you want a slap up meal and something to write home about that others won't already have already visited, then you'd do well to book one of the city's many newer restaurants. So, while this is not a definitive list of all the best restaurants in New York, it's a great place to start if you want something newer and delicious.
Lamia's Fish Market
For those that love to discover the coolest new eateries, rather than tread the tiles at an already well-loved establishment, boy do we have something for you. Lamia's Fish Market - so named after Spanish-Moroccan Lamia Funti, a petite powerhouse, with a mirthful laugh and an exquisite charm - is an absolute diamond.
Or should we say, a precious piece of sparkling sea glass, for stepping into this restaurant is like taking a trip to the royal, underwater city of Atlantis.
Despite the sweet-sounding Octopus Room and tentacled murals, Lamia's Fish Market is anything but a gimmick. Funti worked with some seriously credible artists in the form of Dara Young, Will Kurtz, Brian Ferrell, and Michela Martello, to bring the space to life. And the interior feels plush and luxurious.
As for the food? A fine, Mediterranean inspired menu of excellent fish and seafood, (the fish tacos will leave you wanting a second and third helping) soft, melt in your mouth sides (try the ceviche, it's a highlight), strong cocktails, a brilliant wine list and otherworldly presentation.
The pièce de résistence is the centrally located, 20-foot 'Raw Bar,' with up to over 15 different varieties of oyster chilling on ice for you to pick your favourites.

Būmu
A self-described lively izakaya-inspired restaurant in the West Village, Būmu is helmed by one of the more notable Japanese cuisine chefs du jour - Joaquin Baca. Importantly, Baca was David Chang’s first hire at the now legendary Momofuku Noodle Bar, so he's excellent foodie stock.
Baca's own provenance is deeply rooted in the American south (Texas, to be precise) so he brings an American-Asian flavour to the cuisine, with pleasing things like smoked beef tongue, grilled short ribs and buttermilk chicken sharing a menu with Rabbit Tsukune and Wagyu Tataki.

The Riddler
'Saturdays are for caviar' - and indeed they are, if you're looking to live your best boujie life while visiting the Big Apple.
The Riddler is an impressive Champagne bar in the West Village. We're talking seriously impressive -t here are over 150 different champagnes to choose between.
But if you're not in the mood for Louboutins, fur and old fashioned values, fear not, because this place takes a 'high - low' approach to life's fineries. Pair your champagne with caviar or... a tater tots waffle?
Another selling point? The Riddler's all-female board. Jen Pelka, fresh from running her own PR firm, has turned her hand to F&B and has brought with it a certain ethos. As the website says: '100% of our investors are women and most of our management team happens to be led by a bad-ass crew of women.'

Atomix
This is for those with a nose for sniffing out secrets. Forget piling into the nearest bustling venue with a full window, Atomix is the sort of place you have to know about ahead of time.
The eatery part of this establishment is a Chef's Counter experience. As in, single party, high stools, 10-course tasting menu showcasing traditional techniques of Korean cuisine.
It's fine dining, it's expensive, but boy is it an experience.

Il Florista
New to the Nomad, Il Florista is something of a concept restaurant, in that it 'explores flowers' beyond just the fact that they look nice.
Chef Garrison Price takes approaches edible flowers with a whole new alacrity and if you're really keen you can bookend your meal with a trip to the flower boutique or a class in floristry.
The space itself is colourful and bright and as well as pansies, you can sample such lovely things as duck cappellacci, grassfed striploin and sweet potato sourdough.
