What do you get when you put Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Past Lives' director Celine Song together? You get Song's follow-up to her esteemed debut, Materialists, the trailer for which has just been released.
In the film, which is released in UK cinemas on June 13, Johnson plays Lucy, an ambitious professional matchmaker who’s just celebrated her ninth successful wedding — but like JLo in The Wedding Planner before her, Lucy is eternally and chronically single, unable to secure a solid relationship of her own.

What is the plot of Materialists?
In true rom-com form, a love triangle emerges between Lucy, Pascal’s Randy, a wealthy bachelor living in a beautiful $12 million (£9 million) New York City apartment who's ready to sweep Lucy off her feet and Lucy's problematic ex, John, (Evans), who's waiting tables while anticipating his acting break. So far, so Song.
Who will star in Materialists?
Johnson, Pascal and Evans will all star as the principle leads of the film, with Song having written, produced and directed Materialists, which Johnson discussed for the first time in September while appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Without revealing much about Materialists, Johnson said in a conversation with Collider that she had 'the most amazing time' working with Song. 'I am deeply in love with her, and with her as a director, as a filmmaker, as a human,' she teased, without revealing anymore about the project, which began filming in April 2024.
