Kim Kardashian, you might argue, is Queen of the 'overshare', considering she's let cameras document just about every aspect of her life for the best part of 25 years.

That said, there are some things she's tight-lipped about, and the true cause of the demise of her marriage to rapper Kanye West is one of those things. There has, of course, been a tonne of (unfounded, as far as we can tell) speculation about affairs, sexual preferences, control, mental health - you name it, there has been a rumour spanning almost every topic.

But until recently, we've not been given many facts.

In a new interview with American Vogue, Kardashian chose to lay it all out on the table, or at least, as much of it as she's comfortable telling us for now.

'I’ve chosen myself,' she told the publication.

She added: 'I think it’s okay to choose you,' intimating to the magazine that staying in her marriage to 44-year-old West would have constituted a sacrifice of herself, potentially her own wellbeing.

Clearly focussed on doing what's best for her, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star said: 'For so long, I did what made other people happy.'

'And I think in the last two years I decided, I’m going to make myself happy. And that feels really good.'

Referring to West, she added: 'And even if that created changes and caused my divorce, I think it’s important to be honest with yourself about what really makes you happy.'

And so there you have it, refusing to bow to the whims and needs of others, and choosing to put herself first, is what she suggests 'caused' her divorce and she's taking responsibility for it.

It is this sense of self-preservation that we can assume prompted Kardashian just this week, to call out her former spouse on Instagram, criticising his frequent use of social media to comment on the details of their acrimony.

Kardashian, who is mum to eight-year-old North, six-year-old Saint, four-year-old Chicago and two-year-old Psalm, took to the social media app to make a plea for West to stop harassing them publicly, stating:

'Kanye's constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create. As the parent who is the main provider and caregiver for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity.'

'Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye's obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.'

Speaking of her attempts to co-parent civilly with West, she said: 'It saddens me that Kanye continues to make it impossible every step of the way.'
