Come December, the Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Eve party is as expected as mince pies for breakfast and meat sweats come 4pm on Christmas Day. It's been a family tradition ever since 1978, only being cancelled once in 2020 due to rising Covid-19 cases and California's ongoing health crisis.

2021's festivities were significantly scaled back too, with the new spread of Omicron affecting the Kardashian-Jenner clan's plans – but for 2022, the reality-star family's legendary Christmas Eve party was fully back, and glitzier than ever.

In a break from tradition, Kourtney Kardashian Barker hosted this year's Christmas Eve bash – taking over from mother Kris Jenner who has historically held the party at her home. Attendees included Kim, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie and their children, as well as close family friends including Addison Rae and jeweller Jennifer Meyer.

Highlights included an all-red ball pit to play in, gigantic coloured Christmas trees, balloon animals, a candy cart, reindeer and a special performance from world-famous singer Sia – who even sang a duet with North West. Yes, really. This family certainly don't do anything by halves.

As ever, the Kardashian-Jenner clan went all out for the Christmas Eve celebrations in a selection of spectacular, red-carpet-worthy looks.

Host Kourtney Kardashian Barker stunned in a sheer, white floor-length gown featuring a dramatic fishtail skirt and sultry cut-out detail.

Kendall Jenner matched the all-red decor in a sparkly red Valentino gown, while Khloé Kardashian and Kris Jenner also followed suit in full-length festive red ballgowns of their own.

Kim Kardashian, ever the one to do things differently, stunned in a seriously sparkly silver gown, matching daughter North West who attended the party in a sequin-covered two-piece suit.

But the stars of the show had to be Kylie Jenner and her daughter Stormi Webster, who went all-out for the occasion in matching cream and black lace-trimmed gowns from Mugler. Mother-daughter twinning done right, if you ask us.

Instagram and TikTok videos from the evening showed multiple generations of the famous family enjoying the bash, dancing, singing and playing together and fully embracing the festive merriment after two years of scaled-back plans.

Why was the 2020 Christmas Eve party cancelled?

After weeks of 'will they, won't they' concerning the 2020 Kardashian Christmas Eve party, Khloé Kardashian was the first to break the sad news that the family had decided to cancel.

In response to a fan question about the party shared on Twitter on December 7, the mother-of-one replied: ‘The Covid cases are getting out of control in CA. So we decided that we're not doing a Christmas Eve party this year, [sic]', referencing California’s ongoing health crisis.

‘It's the first time we will not be having a Christmas Eve party since 1978 I believe.’

The Good American co-founder added that her family were putting ‘health and safety first’ and that taking ‘this pandemic seriously is a must’.

Back in November, the 36-year-old Tweeted about the possibility of her family throwing their now-famous party, attended by the wider family and celebrities including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend in recent years.

‘I think it will have to be way smaller obviously,’ she tweeted her followers last month. ‘And I'm totally fine with that! But we're definitely celebrating Christmas!

‘We have not done anything. No Christmas photos and no Christmas Eve party this year,’ Khloe told one social media user. ‘Covid has taken over. [sic]’

Her post resulted in messages from some Twitter users who warned the reality star of the dangers of coming together at a party during the pandemic.

News of the cancelled bash came months after the famous family were regularly spotted together and ruffled feathers with their fans with regards to the way they had (or hadn't) abided by social-distancing guidelines during the pandemic.
