With the majority of the world encouraged to practice social distancing and stop seeing anyone they don't live with, people have been resorting to video calls for contacting people.

Even royalty, it seems.

This week, Kate Middleton and Prince William carried out their first royal engagement via video call when they spoke to a group of children and staff at Casterton primary school in Burnley from their Amner Hall home in Norfolk.

Most children are being home-schooled in the UK under the government's orders but schools have been kept open for children of key workers and vulnerable students too, so the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thanked staff for their tireless work looking after these young individuals amid the pandemic.

In the sweet video, some of the children at the school - which works closely with the charity Place2Be, of which Kate is a patron - showed the royals the paintings they had drawn of their parents, one of whom works for the NHS and another a teacher in a special needs school.

Prince William was also reprimanded by one student when he asked if she had made a handbag in arts and crafts, only to be immediately corrected that it was, in fact, an Easter basket.

According to the Daily Mail, the children did not let their time with the royal couple go to waste and insisted on asking them the questions we would all want to know.

When one child asked who was 'the best famous person they had met', Kate - who wore a mustard-coloured jumper from Zara for the video chat - decided that for her it was Sir David Attenborough as she spoke of how her eldest son Prince George has been enjoying his narrated documentary Blue Planet recently.

The mother-of-three also shared that their youngest son Prince Louis - who was seen recently applauding NHS workers in a sweet video - has been playing in the garden looking for his favourite insects, ladybirds.

Wishing the teaching staff at the school a 'Happy Easter' before signing off, Kate teased that her husband of nine years had been eating the chocolate at their home ahead of Easter Sunday.
