Selena Gomez has opened up about her experience of playing her BFF Taylor Swift her new music and bring the Cats star and her mother to tears.

In a new interview with KISS FM UK, the 26-year-old singer recalled playing her two new songs ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look At Her Now’ to Swift and her parents, describing it as ‘one of the coolest experiences’.

After playing them the songs, Gomez remembered the ‘Shake It Off’ singer and her mother, Andrea Swift, cried.

‘It's gonna make me cry thinking about it,’ Gomez admitted during the interview.

‘Because it wasn't just about how great the song was, which is a lot coming from her, it was just that they had been on that journey with me, intimately.

'And they were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life, and it not involving the horrible things, the abuse, the emotional chaos, it felt like I had a huge sigh of relief.’

The Texas-born singer continued, saying that it was ‘very sweet’ to see her friend and her mother react to her music in such a heartfelt way.

‘It's like an older sister and an aunt,’ she added.

‘It felt great to have people I love see it as that.’

The track ‘Lose You to Love Me’ includes references rumoured to be about her on-off relationship with ex boyfriend Justin Bieber and how quickly he moved on with his now wife, Hailey Baldwin (now Hailey Bieber).

The pair began dating in 2010 and continued their roller-coaster romance until 2018. Two months after they split, the singer rekindled his previous relationship with Baldwin.

Meanwhile, the song ‘Look At Her Now’ features lines such as ‘Of course she was sad/But now she's glad she dodged a bullet’, presumably in reference to her previous relationship.

Last week, Gomez posted a photograph of her and Swift on Instagram to celebrate the Reputation singer’s 30th birthday.

‘Love living many many many years of life with you,’ she captioned the post. ‘You mean the world to me. You help me become better everyday. Happy 30th, @taylorswift.’

Swift reposted the photo on her Instagram Story with an ‘I love you’ sticker.
