How adorable!

The child's official title will be His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge. His first name is also one of Prince George's middle names.

The most famous royal Louis is Louis XIV, also known as 'Louis the Great' who was a monarch of the House of Bourbon and reigned as King of France from 1643 (at the age of four) until his death in 1715.

The Frankish name is composed of the words for ‘fame’ (hlōd) and ‘warrior’ (wīg) which may be translated to famous warrior or ‘famous in battle’.

The news comes hours after it was widely believd Kensington Palace may have accidentally given the game away by appearing to create a webpage specifically for ‘Prince Albert’.

Earlier this week, Prince William let slip a few things about what we should expect from his baby boy's name and gave us a clue into how the newborn is behaving at home with the family.

Attending an Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey at midday, William told reports his son was ‘very well, thanks’ and that everyone is ‘in good form, luckily’.

The new dad added: ‘Sleeping's going reasonably well so far, so he's behaving himself, which is good.’ William also joked with a member of the public that his newborn has a ‘strong name’.

On the day of their child's birth, Prince William told the press outside the Lindo Wing: 'We’re very happy. We’re delighted. Thank you,' adding' we’re thrice worried now.' The royal also teased the baby’s big name reveal saying: 'You’ll find out soon enough. We didn’t keep you waiting too long.'

And, thankfully, they didn't!

The announcement comes two months after Ladbrokes revealed the odds for the most likely names for the third royal baby.

In February, the name Mary overtook Alice with odds of 7/1, while Victoria followed close behind at 8/1 if the baby was a girl. Meanwhile, it was widely believed they’d call a baby boy Albert and Arthur (with leading the odds of 12/1), followed closely behind by Frederik and Henry.

A Kensington Palace statement said Catherine and her new son were 'both doing well'.

William was present for the birth, the palace added.

The statement added that members of both families had been informed and were 'delighted with the news'.

We wonder what Prince George and Princess Charlotte make of their little brother’s name.

Welcome to the world, Louis!
