Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, as of Sunday February 20, 2022.

According to official Palace spokespeople, the Queen is experiencing 'mild cold like symptoms', but 'expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week' suggesting that she has not come down with the illness too severely.

The Queen, 95-years-old, is understood to be fully vaccinated, having received her first dose in January 2021 and then subsequent booster injections. According to the BBC, a number of people at Windsor Castle have also tested positive for the virus, of which the Omicron variant is highly infectious.

News of Her Majesty's contraction of the virus comes hot on the heels of similar diagnoses for both Prince Charles and Camilla, who both tested positive this month, making it the second time that the Prince of Wales had come down with Covid-19.

It is believed that the Queen came into contact with her son Prince Charles while he might already have had coronavirus, which would explain the transmission.

The following day, she smiled as she suggested she had mobility problems during a meeting with defence staff. Standing while using a walking stick, she pointed to her left leg and said: "Well, as you can see, I can't move."
