Dakota Johnson has given a rare insight into her relationship with musician Chris Martin, opening up about how she ended up directing his band Coldplay's new music video. The actress – who is thought to have been dating the star for three years – explained in a recent interview that she had to pitch her idea to the group just like everybody else.
"I wrote the story and pitched it to the band like every other director did – and they chose mine," Johnson told Marie Claire, adding jokingly: "Not because they're partial to me at all."
The actress went on to talk about how that she curated "every single detail" of the music video, which was for the British group's single 'Cry, Cry, Cry'. She added that, as with every project she works on, she gave it everything.

"When I work, I'm constantly thinking about the job. It takes up so much of my brain. Not all of my projects are only good messages but all of them have a little bit of something that makes me feel like it's an OK thing to pour my heart into."
On how she picks her projects, Johnson said: "I really don’t have a method, and I don’t want one – it’s very intuitive and emotional."
Later in the interview, Johnson also tackled some tougher subjects, including talking about how she has been dealing with depression for much of her life.
"I’ve struggled with depression since I was young — since I was 15 or 14. That was when, with the help of professionals, I was like, 'Oh, this is a thing I can fall into'. But I’ve learnt to find it beautiful because I feel the world. I guess I have a lot of complexities, but they don’t pour out of me. I don’t make it anyone else’s problem."
