Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. And this year, instead of getting excited for M&S’s Dine In For Two Meals (perfect for both loved-up couples or singletons with big appetites – no judgement here…), we’re getting riled up for the premiere of the Dirty John TV series on Netflix.

In case you haven’t heard of Dirty John, it started as a podcast of the same name by journalist Christopher Goffard, which follows the crazy true story of John Meehan and Debra Newell.

John posed as an anaesthetist to charm his way into successful interior designer Debra’s life with his charisma and good looks. He then convinced her into marrying him in Vegas two months after they met in an attempt to get hold of her money.

But it wasn’t long before Debra’s daughters – Veronica and Terra – started getting suspicious. They tried to convince their mother that he was no good, but that just led him to dig his claws in deeper.

And that’s all we’ll say of the story of John and Debra as we don’t want to spoil it for you.

The TV show, which originally aired in the States on Bravo, stars Eric Bana as John, and Nashville’s Connie Britton as Debra. Juno Temple plays Veronica and Julia Garner takes on the role of Terra.

So, do yourself a favour this Valentine’s Day – cancel any romantic plans, and Netflix and chill with Dirty John. Not like that…

Dirty John is due for release 14th February 2019 on Netflix.
