Here with a special report to let you know that Instagram is currently out here doing God's work: you can now mute people on your Instagram timeline without unfollowing them.

Isn't it always a pleasant surprise when social media is good, or at least does something good?

Twitter and Facebook both have long offered users the opportunity to mute or 'snooze' folks who've been doing too much with the platforms, but this is exciting new territory for Instagram. Previously, while Instagram never sent a notification if someone unfollowed you, users could still easily find out — there were lots of hurt feelings all around.

So, here's how you do it: Tap the little three buttons in the top left corner of a post and select "Mute." You can then choose to just mute the user's posts or both their posts and stories. Easy peasy!

Per BuzzFeed, now when you mute someone you'll still be able to see DMs from them, look at their posts when you go to their profile page, and get a notification if they tag you in anything. Basically, they're just not clogging up your feed anymore!

The feature will still take a couple of weeks to roll out in full, so don't freak out if you can't see it yet; you will one day, very soon, get to silence everyone who posts an engagement pic with an "#ISaidYes💍" while standing in front of a wooded stream wearing matching sweaters.
