The Best Cashmere Jumpers For Every Budget

Because there is simply no better piece of knitwear.

By Jessica Burrell

Few investment pieces are quite so worthwhile as a really good cashmere jumper. Everyone's favourite knitwear category, cashmere jumpers combine the Holy Trinity of purchasing prerequisites: comfort, luxury and durability. That's why it's always a good time to invest in a new one – whether you're seeking a high street hero or indulging in a designer piece.

Cashmere's insulating capacity (which is apparently eight times higher than that of wool) makes it not only warm but ideal for regulating body temperature; in layman's terms, that means you won't arrive at the meeting or restaurant you had to march to in an overheated mess. Rather, you'll arrive feeling neither too hot nor too cold – a cashmere jumper, in other words, is a shortcut to feeling just right.

The cashmere jumper has always been a wardrobe staple – and with good reason. It can be paired with jeans or leggings to add some low-key luxe to weekend looks, layered over sharp tailoring for a foolproof workwear formula, or even slung on over slip dresses to provide extra warmth under a jacket or trench. However you wear it, you just know a cashmere piece is going to feel supremely soft, adding some welcome cosiness to any outfit.

Some would argue that neutral is best when it comes to cashmere jumpers – and there are plenty of delicious shades of cream, charcoal, camel and chocolate out there to add credence to that mentality, from Reformation, Arket and more. That said, this knitwear staple is also a great excuse to add a pop of colour to your day, with bold shades seen everywhere from M&S to Arch4 – plus, more playful brands like The Elder Statesmen make a compelling case for mixing things up a little.

So, here's ELLE's round-up of the latest and greatest cashmere jumpers out there to shop right now, from the high street to high-end designers.
