Dua Lipa Just Reminded Us Why The Corset Trend Isn't Going Anywhere
They go with everything

If there's one thing has emerged very clearly from both the AW22 and SS22 seasons, it's that this is the year for bringing sexy back into our wardrobes. Think less fashion, more flesh – whether that's an exposed pelvis, daring cut-out details, a teeny-tiny skirt to show off the legs that have finally emerged from loungewear, or all of the above. And corsets. Lots of corsets.
But banish any preconceptions you may have about corsets. Organ-crushing, faint-inducing, waist-training, a bit burlesque? Not anymore. 2022's corset isn't made to be restrictive or achieve some 'ideal' body type – it's closer to a bustier top, and all about feeling empowered, confident, and having a whole lot of fun. Plus, nothing says sexy like rocking your underwear as outerwear.
This year's corset is more Euphoria than Bridgerton: bright colours, metallic finishes, edgy prints, worn as a top with low-slung trousers, mini skirts and cargo pants, or as part of a matching co-ord set. It's the perfect mix of high-school rebellion, cool-teen party dressing and that Nineties / Y2K style that's stubbornly sticking around.
Just look to Versace's AW22 show for a prime example of how it should be done, or to the long list of celebrities who have been spotted rocking the trend of late – from Kim Kardashian, Irina Shayk and Bella Hadid in LaQuan Smith's patent number, to Billie Eilish, Sydney Sweeney and the Hadid sisters at this year's Met Gala.
And the latest celebrity to hop on the trend, and remind us that it's not going anywhere anytime soon? None other than Dua Lipa, who posted a photo of herself in Mexico City wearing an epic corset by Dion Lee featuring black leather and exposed zippers.
Needless to say, this is the time to start getting in on the trend if you haven't already – and these are the most fashionable corset and bustier tops to shop right now:
