There can be no doubt that the handbag most synonymous with Sex And The City is the iconic Fendi Baguette. Carrie Bradshaw's preferred arm candy accompanied her almost constantly in the series, and was with her through Big, Aidan, Big again, and just about everything (and everyone) in between.
For avid fans, one scene immediately springs to mind – when in season three, Carrie gets mugged and has to hand over her beloved purple sequinned Fendi. What could possibly be more Carrie, than the fact that even at gunpoint, she corrects the mugger referring to the item as simply a bag: 'It's a Baguette', she cries, almost incredulous at his error.
The line became so iconic that in 2019, when Fendi first reissued the Baguette style, it released a brilliantly tongue-in-cheek advert featuring a group of influencers fawning over the bag and rushing to the nearest Fendi store to buy it for themselves – only to discover that it has just been sold. They chase the lucky buyer down the street, shouting 'Ma'am, I need that bag!' after her – and it is none other than Sarah Jessica Parker, who once again utters: 'It's not a bag, it's a Baguette'.
