It's fair to say we've prepped a little more than usual for Black Friday this year – with the cost of pretty much everything still relentlessly high, we're pushing back the big purchases in the hope of scoring some long-coveted capsule wardrobe additions (plus, that new kettle we really need) with a helpful discount today.
Every year, the Selfridges Black Friday sale is one we get particularly excited about. There's just one catch: Selfridges technically doesn't 'do' Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But, every year, without fail, the department store launches a seasonal sale over the exact same time period. We really don't care what they call it, so long as they come through with the goods.

This week, the designer retailer has done things a little differently, launching a classic clearance sale spanning every category, from fashion to beauty via homeware and even that dreamy foodhall. We've spotted some serious designer bargains, from half-price party bags courtesy of All Saints to discounts on beauty advent calendars (yes, just in the nick of time for December 1).
You don't need us to tell you that the department store's sales are a big deal – seriously, these discounts have had people queueing out the door from as early as 7am in previous years. But if there's one thing we've learned recently, it's that online sale shopping is king. We recommend saving yourself the stress (we don't do crowds or commutes these days) by browsing Selfridges' Black Friday deals from home again this year. And you can make life even easier by choosing from ELLE UK's edit of the best bits, of course. Trust us to keep you firmly up to date on all the details, including the very best gems we unearth on our scrolls.
Selfridges Black Friday Advent Calendar Deals:
Turns out, the early bird doesn't always bag the best deals. Last year, anyone who was extremely late to the advent calendar party could actually score some enviable reductions, with a fair few beauty-brand offerings included in the sale.
However, if you're keen to truly treat yourself this year, we'd recommend snapping up your calendar of choice now, as there's no guarantee these babies will linger on the shelves for long. And if you're after a little help narrowing it down, we highly recommend the retailers own offering this year: worth over £1090, it's filled with some super-hyped brands you won't find anywhere else, from Harry Styles' Pleasing to viral fragrance sensation Phlur.
Selfridges Black Friday Fashion deals:
You don't need us to tell you that Selfridges is the place to pick up all the best party pieces, from dazzling sequin dresses for NYE to the perfect patent trousers to team with a cashmere knit and pair of shoulder-skimming earrings.
In previous years, we've spotted some incredible accessories in the Selfridges sale. Ahead of this festive season, we're holding out for those glittering little finishers that'll make our party looks truly sparkle: think Jennifer Behr's silvery earrings with waterfalls of glinting crystals, and Amina Muaddi's hyper-glam trophy heels.
Selfridges Black Friday Beauty Deals:
We're hoping to bag a few fragrant presents this year, and the fastest route to success is with a chic niche perfume. After all, we've all got at-least one Byredo obsessive on our list....
Does Selfridges take part in Black Friday?
Technically, no. But the department has done a 'Christmas Comes Early' sale, which has fallen on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend, for the past five years. For 2023 however the e-tailer launched a low-key winter clearance instead of shouting about Black Friday deals.
Does Selfridges take part in Cyber Monday?
Again, without naming it the 'Cyber Monday sale', Selfridges sneaks in there on the Monday after Black Friday with a big sales event that beats any clearance discounting throughout the year.
When is the Selfridges Black Friday Sale?
Black Friday falls on the fourth week of November – in 2024, that'll be Friday 29.
Ok, so what actually is Black Friday?
Black Friday was originally an American holiday, thought to be kick-started by department store Macy’s in the 1930s. The annual event didn't get its name until later on, when it grew in popularity during the 1980s.
It wasn't until decades later, in 2010, that the UK started cashing in on the shopping event. Naturally, Amazon went first: the e-tailer began offering customers online discounts and deals on the same day as the sales in the US. Fast forward to 2024, and Black Friday is basically bigger than Boxing Day sales, with most high street and even some luxury stores taking part.
What's the deal with Selfridges Black Friday shipping?
Selfridges charges anywhere between £5 and £8 for standard delivery, which takes five working days, depending on your basket total. It's usually free for orders over £600, but last year on Black Friday the minimum spend was £150.
If you need your item sooner, the department store offers a Click + Collect service (be aware: some fine jewellery brands are exempt) or a Same Day option for delivery within the M25. Find out more here.
