With a CV that spans modelling, acting and singing at the age of just 23, not to mention an Oscar nomination by the time she was 13 and an Instagram following of over 13 million, Hailee Steinfeld is the multi-talented millennial simultaneously storming her way onto the big (and small) screen, stamping her mark on our Spotify 'Best Of' lists and topping our Saved posts grid.

In her fictional ventures Steinfeld has fought Transformers, battled with cowboys in True Grit and challenged gender norms in her upcoming AppleTV series, Dickinson, but when it comes to more personal issues, the actress has struggled as much as anyone else.

'I have struggled with acne for what feels like forever,' Steinfeld tells ELLE in our latest episode of Beauty Truths. Speaking on her experience of acne as a teenager just starting out in Hollywood, the Pitch Perfect star revealed the damaging effect it's had on her confidence saying, 'I would definitely be lying if I said that it hasn't affected my self esteem.'

Between make-up artists commenting on her skin 'out of earshot', comparing herself to endless Photoshopped posts on Instagram, and trying every treatment available, from pre-Met Gala facials to celery juice cleanses, Steinfeld bared all about the debilitating feeling of having adult acne. 'It's been difficult for me scrolling through my phone and seeing all of these images that are perfect. Whether they're FaceTuned or Photoshopped or not, it feels like everything we see is quite literally perfect. I've even seen photos of myself that look perfect, when I know that they're not.'

But, in true 2020 form, the LA local used lockdown to focus on her health, happiness and clearing her skin. 'I had this moment more recently where I feel like, for the first time in a long time, I can comfortably say I'm the most confident I've ever been, blemishes and all.'
