Simone Biles has won the gold in today's women's floor final, her fifth medal in the Olympics and fourth gold. Her teammate, Aly Raisman, the defending gold medalist from 2012 London games, won the silver. Amy Tinkler of Great Britain took the bronze, the first medal and time her country had a qualifier in the event.
Biles earned a score of 15.966 (6.900 difficulty, 9.066 execution, 0.0 penalties) , besting her all-around floor exercise score, 15.933. Raisman got a 15.500 (difficulty 6.600, execution 8.900, penalties 0.0), but it was a close match.
Biles was a favorite for the competition, having gotten the highest floor score in the individual all-around competition (which features floor, beam, uneven bars, and vault rotations). In her last event—the balance beam finals—she got the bronze because she nearly slipped off the beam at one point. But Biles wasn't bothered by the Olympic upset. "I'm not disappointed in the medal that I received because anyone would love to have a bronze at an Olympics Games," Biles told NBC. Now she's five for five with medals.
