Lady Gaga is casting a spell on “Abracadabra,” the newest track off her seventh studio album Mayhem. This marks the third single she’s shared from the project, following “Disease” and Billboard No. 1 hit “Die With a Smile” with Bruno Mars. It premiered along with a cinematic music video–complete with high-fashion looks and elaborate choreography—during a commercial break at the Grammy Awards, where Gaga is nominated for multiple awards. She’s set to release Mayhem on March 7.
Gaga has been teasing the highly anticipated track. In the announcement video for Mayhem, eagle-eyed Gaga fans noticed the word “Abracadabra” lurking in the background. The song takes a page from iconic Gaga songs where the star says her own name. This exclusive list boasts “Bad Romance,” “Aura,” and more.
When speaking to ELLE about her new album for her recent cover, Gaga talked about the songs that made the final cut, saying this project transcends genres. “Mayhem is about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life that it takes you to,” she said. “And in that way, it was about following the songs. Writing as many songs as I did for this album was a labour of total love. And then you just have to be very cutthroat by the end.”
Gaga also wrote parts of this album with her fiancé Michael Polansky, who she said helped write “like, seven songs!”
“It’s been one of the most incredible parts of this chapter of my life, to live with and coexist alongside someone making art and being creative in ways that very few people get to experience,” Polansky said to ELLE. “I think of myself as really lucky to have been there for it.”
