THE RUNDOWN
- Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce confirmed their engagement with a joint Instagram post on August 26.
- The caption and timing of the announcement were filled with subtle clues, including a nod to Swift’s favorite number, 13.
- Swifties are now finding even more engagement-related Easter eggs.
Leave it to Taylor Swift to turn an engagement post into an Easter egg hunt. She and Travis Kelce confirmed they’re getting married with an Instagram post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” The emoji doubled as a nod to their initials, T and T, which read “TNT” when abbreviated. Though during her New Heights appearance, Swift said she’s “never going to plant an Easter egg that ties back” to her personal life, her fans couldn’t help but go looking for clues:
Swift’s favorite number, 13
Swift, who was born on Dec. 13, 1989, has long considered 13 to be her lucky number, and she wove it into the engagement reveal. The couple’s post went live exactly at 1 P.M. ET—aka the 13th hour of the day. August 26, the date of their announcement, also fits the pattern, since 13 plus 13 equals 26.
The Lover connection
The lush floral setting of the proposal—a garden surrounded by pink, white, and green flowers—bears a resemblance to imagery from Swift’s Lover era, her most romance-centric album.
Kelce’s lock screen
Swifties had already been on engagement watch, thanks to one of Kelce’s Instagram posts from July. In a photo Kelce shared, his lock screen showed Swift holding up her hand, which some fans interpreted as an engagement photo.
Her new logo
Back in May, Swift published a letter on her website after announcing she bought back the master recordings of her first six albums. On the letter was a very specific T.S. logo, which fans have now noticed looks a lot like the elongated shape of her new engagement ring. At the time, it seemed like just another design choice, but now it feels like one of her most subtle hints yet.
Swift’s three-year-old hint
Swift once asked during a 2022 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “Can I hint at something three years in advance?”
Fans have since (jokingly) pointed out that, three years ago, in her “Bejeweled” video, Jack Antonoff proposed to Swift in front of an arch of flowers—an image that now feels strikingly prophetic.
