Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are literally kissing and telling. The now-engaged couple shared the story of their first kiss ahead of the release of their suggestive new single, “Sunset Blvd.” The song was inspired by their first date.

Blanco posted an Instagram Story detailing how he made the move on Gomez, and it literally is fit for a movie. Their first official photo was taken moments before he kissed her.

He wrote, “I feel like this exact moment will be etched into my memory forever.…we were playing ‘we are not really strangers’ and the card we pulled said ‘take a selfie together’ and then you laid your head on my chest after we took the photo. I look at you and could feel your heart pounding so hard that I had no other choice but to lean in and kiss you…and I can tell you for sure that that was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I love you.”

Gomez reposted it and wrote, “love you,” on her Instagram Story. We’re Not Really Strangers, the game they were playing, is a question game designed to literally bring friends and strangers alike closer.

Blanco hadn’t realized Gomez was interested in him at first. The couple recounted the story of how they started dating to Interview in January.

They had been friends first. “We got in the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me,” Gomez said.

“I had no idea,” Blanco admitted.

“I feel like you could be friends with someone forever but not know until you have that one night—” Gomez continued.

“Yes. I literally didn’t know,” Blanco said. “We were in the session and I was like, ‘You should meet some of my friends. I can hook you up with some dates.’ I hadn’t thought about it at all. And then we were texting afterwards and we decided to get dinner the next day. I guess she thought it was a date and I had no idea it was a date. The second time we hung out, our second date, I was like, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was clueless. From then on, it was easy. You know when you think you met the right person, you’re like, ‘Oh my god.’ But it feels so different. The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.’”

The couple announced their engagement in December 2025, one year after they went public with their dating.
