Beyoncé kept her Album of the Year speech short on the Grammys stage. But immediately after, the singer added one extra thank you during her interview with Entertainment Tonight. She gave her 7-year-old daughter Rumi Carter a rare shout-out, saying, “Rumi, who’s on the album [in Cowboy Carter’s “Protector”], our youngest daughter, she was watching [at home], and I forgot to thank her so I get to thank her now. Thank you, Rumi.”

Beyoncé also discussed how much the moment meant to her, especially because she shared it with her oldest daughter, 13-year-old Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé brought Blue onstage when she accepted her award.

“It’s very surreal [winning Album of the Year], and it’s been 25 years of just working really hard and trying my best to keep growing, keep opening up doors,” Beyoncé said. “So I’m just very honored, very honored. And I’m happy that my daughter got to see that.”

She added, jokingly, that Blue is “taller than me. I don’t like it at all. But I’m so happy that she was here.”

In September, Beyoncé spoke to GQ about how she prioritizes protecting her children Blue, Rumi, and Sir’s privacy. “One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand,” she shared. “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”

While Blue remains mostly out of the public eye, she occasionally attends awards ceremonies or premieres with her famous parents. Twins Sir and Rumi haven’t made as many event appearances, although Rumi and Blue were photographed at last year’s Super Bowl.
